Big String Ball,Penguin Primary School

Here are the pictures and words from the project i was working on at the end of last year.I was commissioned to create an art piece for the Penguin Primary School. They had just finished building a Community Centre which both links to the school and stands alone as function centre, arts space, office space and sports space. Showing great vision,Penguin Primary School has provided the school community a great new space, but also, the  town of Penguin, and the North West coast a great new venue...

It seems ironic, this tag - Ocean and earth. Is this how we love our planet. How does this plastic tag floating in our oceans make us feel? Do we really need all the packaging that goes with our products?

Walnut dyeing

At last, i have removed my sisal string from my walnut dye. This dye requires no mordant, just time, and I'm sure you will agree, dyes a very lovely colour. It was dyed in a bucket without electricity or gas.

I will be working on my baskets at The Makers Workshop, Burnie this week, using this string.

 

 I hope to do some more natural dyeing with this dye soon.
Look out for my solar dyed jars at the makers, i hope to do some Berry solar dyeing along with onion skin solar...

10,000 Minutes of Plastic - My new Project

10,000 minutes of plastic.

A project by Janine Morris of second Sister.

  365 days of collecting plastic for 1/2 hour each day. This equals over 10,000 minutes of collecting time.  

 

This project is about the plastic I collect in one year, and represents plastic for a week of our life. A small snapshot of our reliance on plastic, our consumerism, lack of respect for ourselves and all that we share our planet with.



This project is about the reliance we have on plastic in our everyday life.
