Solar dyeing now in Nest front window

This week Natalie at Nest, Penguin is featuring my Solar dyed and Solar steamed silk scarves. She has put together,  in her usual lovely style, a really great display of my solar dyeing and silk scarves.
 
 





These scarves, like in Nests window display, are Solar dyed and Solar steamed with onion skins. This lovely colour and pattern comes from the humble onion. Like all natural dyes, the colour is soft and almost familiar in a vintage/childhood way. Our nana's were always dyeing and over-dyeing ...

Dresses for sale.....

I have now in stock Children's Dresses at Nest and the Makers Workshop, Burnie and my own store.
 
I am making these lovely pieces one at a time, and giving each a lot of love. Here is one under construction.
 
 

Each dress a combination of vintage, collected and new materials including linen blends, sheeting, buttons, repurposed wool blanket and jean pockets, chenille, repurposed denim jeans, organic denim, dollies, peck-e details and more.

baskets under construction

Making string with recycled sari silk and sisal string.
 
 

Framed joined with a god's eye. Weaving in string with basket upside down, between knees.

 




Keep turning it around the right way, to see that the colours look right, and that the frame still has the shape you started with. Some of us find that string is woven on more than just baskets (see my wrist).


A lovely basket of collected blue bailing twine, just perfect for these rope baskets.

This is my latest work, now on display at The Makers Workshop, in Burnie. A home to art, artists, paper making, visitor information, local history and modern architecture.

Penguin Organic Festival the Photos

A really great day was had at the Festival. Great guest speakers, lovely local music, many kids activities and fantastic networking of fellow festival goers. The Spider web sculpture was a great success, loved by both adults and children.  I had all kinds of recycled and natural materials available, including - raw fleece, bailing twine, sisal string, various op shop balls of shinny wool, sheeting torn up, sari silk, and even some donations of lids, wire and canna lilly cuttings.
